Anyone with a pouch, or an interest in pouches (perhaps you are considering surgery or are a supporter of a ‘pouchee’), is warmly invited to join us at the 2022 Kangaroo Club Information day.

The theme of the day will be Pouch Longevity and there will be a full programme of sessions, including:

  • Pouches over time and pouch surgery repair – Mr Bruce George,
Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, OUH NHS Foundation Trust, and Kangaroo Club President
  • Life after a pouch – the real life experience of Emma Harris, together with Mr Bruce George’s expertise
  • Pouch longevity:
  1. The results of the KC’s survey of pouch owners – Laura Dunn
  2. The results of an academic literature review – Dr Andrew Worrall, Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford
  • Diet for good and continuing pouch function – Alice Gibson, Dietician, OUH NHS Foundation Trust
  • Thoughts on the pelvic floor, diet and lifestyle – Rebecca Doyle, Clinical Scientist, and Karen Curran, Senior Specialist Nurse, Pelvic Floor Team, OUH NHS Foundation Trust
  • Pouch longevity – the perspective of the nursing team:
  1. The results of the 2020 pouch audit and reflections on pouch longevity given these results – Fran Woodhouse, Senior Specialist Nurse, Colorectal Nursing Team, OUH NHS Foundation Trust
  2. The future of pouch surveillance and nursing pouch support moving forward – Simon Turley, Senior Specialist Nurse, Colorectal Nursing Team, OUH NHS Foundation Trust
  • Question and answer session – Fran Woodhouse and Simon Turley

It will also of course be an opportunity to meet and talk with lots of pouch owners. Once the formal programme has finished anyone who would like to carry on chatting in a more informal setting, is invited to join Ruth Cox (KC Committee member) at The Plough in Wolvercote, which is a very nice pub 2 minutes’ drive away from Jury’s Inn. Ruth will give more details on the day, but this is a heads up so that you can plan your day and journey home most effectively.
